Sarah McInerney introduced Sounding Out 2024 by saying that the issues and themes of the event last year stayed on her mind, particularly the intimacy of radio.
This year in news showed Sarah why audio, and radio in particular is the unsung hero of media communications. It was a very big news year with the wars in the Middle East and Ukraine, two assassination attempts on a U.S. Presidential candidate, the U.S. presidential election, European and local elections, the Dublin riots. And it was after one of those events, one of the assassination attempts, there was a post on twitter saying if there was only a podcast I could listen to live that has all the latest update on what’s going on……….radio! The post put the finger on the super power of radio. It does what no other media can do, it has the ability to bring verified news to the listener immediately after a particular event has happened. It is incredibly powerful.
